penelope was the wife of odysseus, and she was noble.  she knew how to test the mettle of a man, and if he proved himself to be above others, she was loyal, constant, and devoted.  she was exceptional — unusual.  why?

depth

November 17, 2007 by razeemc

Depth of thought, depth of feeling, depth of hate, depth of love, depth of kindness, depth of despair, depth of curiosity…  hungry for depth and intensity in this superficial world.  Play acting, make-believe, posing, insincerity, feigning, duplicity.  Husbands and wives, mothers and sons, fathers and daughters, colleagues and cronies, politicians and rogues, saints and martyrs.  Which pair does not belong and why?  No one will say what he is really thinking.  Smoothing over.  The use of euphemisms and code words.  Getting more than one gives.  Giving alms to the poor while stealing from your neighbor.  Telling your spouse you love him/her while committing adultery.  Teachers failing students while rigging exams.  CEO’s increasing share holder value while backdating stocks.

Nice people don’t say such things, or should they?  These are the cogitations of one world citizen wishing to behave as an agent provocateur to the some who cope by numbing themselves, refusing to describe what goes on about them, who will say nothing rather than be noticed, and who, by virtue of remaining silent, benumbed, and disengaged let the world spin out of control.

I am interested in the responses of anyone with whom these verbally drawn images resonate and hearing of life experiences that explain why these thoughts mean something to you.

Hello world!
